The RE appointment went well. I was surprised at how much time I actually spent with the doctor talking about my medical history and going over different options. He was especially understanding of our situation with B being deployed right now. His thought was to take a fairly aggressive approach to diagnosing the reason why I am either not ovulating or ovulating so late. This is the game plan as of now:
• Tomorrow get bloodwork to test hormones
• Depending on results of the bloodwork – either take Provera to start period
(if no ovulation is detected) or wait for period (if ovulation is detected).
He thinks I didn’t ovulate since I am on day 45 of my cycle now.
• Baseline ultrasound scheduled for Monday to make sure everything looks okay
• Day 3 of my cycle (whenever it starts) more bloodwork to test hormones
• Day 10 or 11 HSG test to make sure my fallopian tubes are okay
Depending on the results of all the tests I may start Clomid or Letrozole this cycle so they can monitor my ovulation. I am not really looking forward to the crappy side effects considering that B won’t even be here.
The doctor was really optimistic about our chances – but then again he hasn’t gotten any of the test results back so I am not sure what he is basing it on. But I do feel much better now that we at least have a strategy.

Hi! I saw a link to your blog and thought I would stop by. I, too, have just begun my journey with a fertility specialist. This first cycle I was on Clomid and had one Menopur injection. I had absolutely no side effects with the Clomid. I know that's not how it is with a lot of people, but I wanted to give you hope. Feel free to stop by my blog if you want to know more about our journey. (mommysomeday.typepad.com)
Hello! Saw your link on Stirrup Queens and thought I'd stop by and er, welcome you in. I hope your stay is short. And, don't be afraid to switch doctors or begin more aggressive treatment.
Take painkillers an hour or two before your HSG if you haven't had one before. You might want to ask for a small dose of prescription painkillers like Percocet or Vicodin for afters. My first HSG was unbelievably painful, with blocked tubes, the second virtually painless and completely clear tubes - go figure!

I am new to your blog but just wanted to stop in and say hello. I'm glad your RE is being proactive before DH's deployment.
I hope all the testing comes back okay. I took Clomid (and will be going back on it next cycle) and my side effects were not too terrible. I'm sure if affects everyone in different ways but all I had were some mild to moderate hot flashes. All I would do is go home and strip to my undies, which helped with the baby making process! LOL
Good luck with everything and I'll be checking in soon.
I 100% agree with hekateris about taking a painkiller before the HSG. I did that and did not feel a thing. If you have an endometrial biopsy, I recommend the same thing.
